The Lifeboat Amateur Radio Society has raised over £10,000 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
As well as running special event stations at RNLI station open days and for RNLI fund-raising events such as the Morecambe Bay Cross Bay Walk and Christmas Reindeer runs, the Lifeboat Amateur Radio Society also organises its own annual fund-raising week in January to coincide with the RNLI’s own SOS Day. Since it started being organised as an offical RNLI fund-raising event in 2009 SOS Radio Week has raised over £10,000.
Participating Amateur Radio operators and groups around the UK and throughout Ireland, together with their sponsors, are to be thanked for making this milestone in the group’s history – it’s a tremendous achievement.
To take part in the next SOS Radio Week (2013) keep an eye out on the SOS Radio Week web site for registration details – registration is usually launched at the Lifeboat Amateur Radio Society stand at the National Hamfest at Newark.
The Norbreck Amateur Radio Exhibition on Sunday, 10th April was the scene for the presentation of the money raised during SOS Radio Week 2011 to Elisabeth White of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). The money, £2,652.74, was raised by Amateur Radio operators from all around the UK and Ireland from sponsored operations during our annual fund-raising event, SOS Radio Week 2011. read more
The Lifeboat Amateur Radio Society has announced that it has built two new applications for members and followers.
The free applications have been designed for Nokia mobile phones running the S60 and ^3 operating systems and will deliver the latest news from the Lifeboat Amateur Radio Society and SOS RadioWeek web sites direct to your mobile phone.
You can download the applications by searching for ‘Lifeboat’ in the OVI Store application on your mobile phone, or the OVI Stor web site. Please note that if you use the web site you must set your mobile phone type to ensure that you send the correct application to your phone.
The S60 version of the apps are suitable for older Nokia smartphones, such as the E71, whilst the ^3 versions are designed to work on the latest range of Nokia smartphones.
The Lifeboat Amateur Radio Society will be exhibiting at the 49th Norbreck Amateur Radio, Electronics and Computing Exhibition in Blackpool on the 10th of April. We will hopefully be situated next to the Snowdonia Radio Company (SRC) stand, one of our major sponsors.
On the stand will be a number of members, but the more the merrier – so if you’re around and can help man the stand please let us know.
During the day we will be making a presentation to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) for the amount raised during SOS Radio Week. It would be great if as many participators could attend so that we can get a group photograph. Again, please let us know if you wish to attend for the photograph.
