Barmouth Lifeboat Station on the air

Meirion Amateur Radio Society attended the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s (RNLIs) Barmouth station on on the 15th of August 2010 for their open day and set-up a special event station under the callsign GB6BLB special event station. The station was located in the shed of the offshore lifeboat “Moira Barry” on Barmouth promenade.

During the day the society operated on all HF bands and 2 meters making many contacts. John Martin (MW0VTK), one of the event’s organisers, said “It’s suprising how many radio amateurs are supporters of the RNLI, we had lots of very positive comments from them, and our thanks go out to everyone“.

Over 400 people made the tour of Barmouth lifeboat station that day, making valuable contributions to the Barmouth RNLI.

The Merion Amateur Radio Society are now making plans for SOS week 2011. John told the Lifeboat Amateur Radio Society reporter, “This will be the 3rd year running we have taken part and we hope to make it even bigger and better than last year, when we raised over £500 for the Barmouth Lifeboat. Many thanks to Derek (G7LFC) and David (M3LFC) for all the hard work in organizing SOS Radio Week and the new Lifeboat Amateur Radio Society.
