Following the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s Morecambe Bay Walk on the 25th June, where GB5RNLI will be based at Holker Hall (the start and finish of the walk), GB5RNLI moves south to Stockport for the International Model Lifeboat Rally on the 26th June.
The Norbreck Amateur Radio Exhibition on Sunday, 10th April was the scene for the presentation of the money raised during SOS Radio Week 2011 to Elisabeth White of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). The money, £2,652.74, was raised by Amateur Radio operators from all around the UK and Ireland from sponsored operations during our annual fund-raising event, SOS Radio Week 2011.
It seems like the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) Lifeguard service have been with us for decades, but in fact they’re only ten years old and in that time they have come to the aid of over 102,600 people and saved over 590 people who might otherwise have died had the service ot been available on that beech.
The RNLI now protects 162 beaches around the coast of England and Wales, either taking over the service from local authorities and volunteer groups, or establishing safety patrols and rescue services for the first time.
The Lifeboat Amateur Radio Society have reserved the callsigns GB5RNLI and GB6RNLI for use by our RNLI Morecambe Bay Walk special event stations on the 25th June.
GB5RNLI will be operated from Holker Hall, whilst GB6RNLI will be used by our special event station at Arnside.
It is likely that the Arnside special event station, the starting point for the walk, will be operated from the car of Bob Hughes-Burton (MW0RHD).
The walk ends at Holker Hall and we will be operating a special event station from the car park to make visitors to the gardens and tea rooms aware of the event.
If you can help at either venue, please let us know as soon as possible.
The Lifeboat Amateur Radio Society will be exhibiting at the 49th Norbreck Amateur Radio, Electronics and Computing Exhibition in Blackpool on the 10th of April. We will hopefully be situated next to the Snowdonia Radio Company (SRC) stand, one of our major sponsors.
On the stand will be a number of members, but the more the merrier – so if you’re around and can help man the stand please let us know.
During the day we will be making a presentation to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) for the amount raised during SOS Radio Week. It would be great if as many participators could attend so that we can get a group photograph. Again, please let us know if you wish to attend for the photograph.
